Rev. Dr. Roger Hayden, former Superintendent of this region, died on Thursday 3rd March 2016 after a long illness. Here’s what WEBA Team Leader Nigel Coles wrote in his email announcement:

I am very sorry to pass on the news Roger Hayden died peacefully, at home, on Thursday, 3rd March. Roger was my immediate predecessor, serving what was then known as the Western Area of the Baptist Union (now WEBA) as Area Superintendent (1986-2000). Roger was a deeply committed man of God and a great servant of the Baptist family in a whole variety of ways.

Previously Roger was a Minister of four Baptist Churches: Waterbarn, Bacup (1961-66), Broadmead, Northampton (1966-71), Haven Green, Ealing (1971-81), Abbey, Reading (1981-86).

First and foremost Roger was a follower of Jesus Christ. He was a very helpful colleague and encourager of me personally. The last time we met we prayed, read scripture and confessed sins together and this is how I shall remember him. Please pray for his wife, Edwina and their family at this time.

Roger’s widow Edwina has now written to WEBA to announce that a Thanksgiving Service for Roger’s life and ministry will be held at Broadmead Baptist Church in Bristol on Friday 8th April at 2pm. She makes it clear that everyone is welcome to join the family at that service.

At the WEBA office, we’ve received many tributes to Roger from those he helped, especially towards and along the ministry journey. There are also several warm tributes in this article in the Baptist Times online:
