“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” Ephesians 6:18

Many of our churches get involved with local community events through the summer months, and we all know that it’s important to pray before, during, and after any opportunity to connect with people who might be searching – for whom we might be one link in a chain that brings them to belief in Jesus. This year, West End Baptist Church in Westbury organised 24 hours of prayer on the Thursday and Friday before running a tent at the Westbury Summer Fayre on the 9th July.

Ian McManus, minister of West End, explained this to the church the previous Sunday:

“I produced some prayer points for people. Things such as praying for the practical details, for protection, for God to be at work throughout the entire day, for the presence of God to be evident within the tent and, of course, the weather!”

Ian then created a short video to launch the 24 hours. He simply recorded himself speaking on an ipad, then uploaded the video to youtube, facebook, and twitter. In addition to connecting with church members who use those platforms, this meant that the church’s wider network, including WEBA churches, were able to join in praying for this event.

As more churches get to grips with social media platforms, this seems like a great way to prompt one another to prayer as we find our way together in God’s mission.

How to get your prayer requests to other WEBA churches:

  1. If you use Twitter, simply tag @webacomms in any prayer requests and we’ll retweet to all the WEBA churches we’re aware of on twitter.
  2. The WEBA facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/webanetwork has much more potential than has been used to date. It’s a public page and anyone can post there – please share prayer requests here and also like the page so that you receive posts from others.
  3. We’re also building the Seventy-two facebook group with the intention of encouraging one another in God’s mission. Anyone can join – just follow the link and click ‘join’.
  4. If you don’t use any of these platforms, we are more than happy to put your prayer requests in WEBA update (every fortnight) or to put out social media prayer requests on your behalf. Just get in touch at office@webassoc.org.uk or on 0117 965 8828.
